About Meta Tag Generator

About the Meta Tag Generator tool

Do you want to attract the right traffic to your website or blog? Search engine optimisation is key for organic traffic growth. Meta tags are HTML tags that provide metadata about a website such as the title, description, allow crawling and indexing of a site etc.

This way search engines can index and show relevant content in their search results

How to use the Meta Tag Generator tool

Enter the following fields of the tool, and the generator will generate the tags to place on your website.

  1. Site Title – Enter the title of your page
  2. Site Description – The tag defines the title of your page
  3. Site Keywords – Keywords you want to tag your page, however note this is not used for search engine optimisation by search engines
  4. Allow robots to index your website – by default search engines will index and crawl your page, but you can control it and tell a search engine to not index to appear on search results
  5. Allow robots to follow all links – you can also control whether a bot should follow any links on your site. Common reasons being to not follow any links in comments, links in guest posts. Note a nofollow won’t prevent the linked page from being crawled completely; it just prevents it from being crawled through the specific link on that page. If another site links to the same page without a nofollow tag, it will be recognised and could appear in search results.
  6. Type of content your site will display (UTF-8, UTF-16, ISO 8859-1, WINDOWS 1252) – To display an HTML page correctly, a web browser must know which character set to use. UTF-8 (Unicode) covers almost all of the characters and symbols in the world and is the default character set for HTML5 is UTF-8.
  7. Primary language of your site – the tag states the language of the page’s content for search engines like Bing, Google

  1. Revisit your website after X days – an optional tag as not all search engines follow this anymore, but you can use it to define when to recrawl your site.
  2. Author – the author tag can be used to define the author of a page. The author tag is also used by Facebook, it will display your name with a link back to your profile any time your article is shared
