The Code to Text Ratio is the percentage of the actual text that a particular web page has. The code refers to the HTML code that is embedded on the page; while, the text is the actual write up on or written content on the page.
If there are many backlinks or images, video, scripts added to a page, then HTML code will increase. When this happens, it will lead to an increased load time for a visitor. And thus, make the end user experience unsatisfactory as users have a low low tolerance on slow loading pages. (this is also a ranking factor acknowledged by Google as well)
Note the above doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have images, video and rich content. You should have rich copy to support this. A page with images, copy, video is much more useful for an end user, and compression should be done to ensure the page loads fast, but the key is to have rich pages that aren’t thin. Text should be more than code on a page, you don’t want thin pages!
This is why Urgent Expert has developed a code to text ratio tool. It is capable of extracting text and HTML code on a page, and calculate the code ratio. The lower the code compared to text, the better!
Most search engines use the code to text ratio, so it gives you a leading advantage over your competitors and when you have a higher text to code ratio on your website.
